Module Objectives

What is meant by student engagement and why is it important for learning? Estimated time to complete: 60-80 Minutes.

This module is related to NEE Indicator 1.2 and 4.1 (Activity #6)

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  1. Define cognitive engagement

  2. Differentiate cognitive from other types of student engagement

  3. Identify non-cognitive skills that contribute to student engagement

  4. Explain how non-cognitive skills contribute to students’ cognitive engagement

  5. Analyze instructional strategies to determine the level of cognitive engagement required of students

  6. Adapt lesson plans to increase the level of student cognitive engagement
