This module explores the relationship between ethical expectations for teachers and the special challenges technology poses for maintaining appropriate teacher-student relationships and preserving a private personal life for teachers. Estimated time to complete: 45-60 minutes.

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

Describe the professional expectations for teachers with regard to their “electronic” interactions with students.

Identify ways teachers can control their public “brand” or persona and explain why they should do so.

Describe the ways teachers’ use of emerging technologies such as social networking, cell phones, etc., present challenges to maintaining appropriate student-teacher boundaries and describe ways to overcome those challenges.
