Using the Co-Teaching Model

Module Objectives

Co-teaching is a popular strategy for supporting students with special needs. This module explores the origins of, research about and best practices for co-teaching. Estimated Time to Complete: 45-60 Minutes.

This module is related to NEE Indicator 2.1, 3.3

At the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  1. Define co-teaching and distinguish it from terms such as collaboration, team teaching and inclusion.

  2. Provide a rationale for implementing co-teaching that is based on philosophy, research and recent legislation

  3. Relate critical components of the co-teaching model

  4. Describe 6 different types of co-teaching arrangements and the situations for which each is appropriate

  5. Identify key topics that should be addressed by the teachers prior to implementing co-teaching

  6. Describe the best practices of co-teaching and strategies for addressing potential issues related to co-teaching
